ES’s Annual Contest of Whatever

The theme this year is “X.”

So obviously, I came up with the idea of “Generation X” while I was using the bathroom…where most of my best ideas originate from.

Stay young, kid. Growing up is a fucking paper cut to your soul.

Generation X- A Poem

I’m a proud member of Generation X

I’d play with my Barbie’s, as my imagination flowed

I’d watch Three’s Company, with the titillation of implied sex

And we didn’t have bottled water, so we drank from the hose

Ahhh, SHIT!!! Mommy!

Oh, life was so much fun, I never did get bored

But if I did, my mom would tell me to go outside

I recall the limerick of the old man that snored

And I fiddled with a Rubik’s Cube…I was never successful, but at least I tried

Eh, kiss my ass, cube of shame...

I was the remote control and my parents trusted me

For I was older than my brother, born in ’74

So I’d mess with the antenna when we’d all watch TV

And if I was a good girl, I could stay up an hour more

You’ll rot your eyes out sitting that close!

I once turned a cardboard box into a castle in the sky

I brought in all of my favorite toys, like my beloved Pound Puppy

I’d laugh at all the boys, especially my little bro when he’d walk by

And looking back now, I know that I was so fucking lucky

Boys smell like cabbage and dog poo!

I’m proud to be a member of Generation X, born between 1966-1980

I land right in the middle, before technology took over the planet

Perhaps I grew up without the internet, cell phones or Slim Shady

But I’d never give up my childhood, like, for sure, totally and damn it

The End

  1. I’m a Gen X’er too, this brought back some memories! Spending a whole day cycling around the town with my mates was a very common way to spend the day. I made a “computer” out of a cardboard box with a light on it, that’s as close to technology I got!

Very cool and nostalgic poem 🙂

    • Thanks, Ali! Oh yeah, I spent so many good times on my bike, tooting around the neighborhood with my friends. If I tried to ride a bike now, I wouldn’t be able to walk for like 2 weeks, I reckon. LOL

  2. I never knew what a ‘Gen Xer’ WAS (being a tail end boomer and all. O_o I allus thought it was those born in the 1980s…. (the more you know!) Excellent prose, and memories of kinder and simpler times.

    • Thanks! I’ve only missed one of ES’s CoW. I even won once! We’ve “known” each other here on WP for years. And ES and I are both Gen-X. I’m only a little older than he is!
      I miss the 80’s.
