Checking In…

I’m still here. It’s been a bit since I last posted anything, I know.

Strange days, my friends.

I’ve been battling my foes, depression and fibromyalgia. Same old there. I’ve been submitting a few articles to Elephant Journal. Out of six, four of them have been chosen for publication. Pretty damn neat, especially the one about my mom. That’s the one that makes me the happiest and proudest.

If you want to read any of them, there’s a link over there on my sidebar. No pressure. Only the top 10 per week gets paid, so I’m not making any money. My dear daughter helped me set up (and learn how to use) Twitter (yikes) and Instagram so that I can share my writing, yeehaw!

Then, there’s this song that was really popular like 9 years ago and of course, I’m only finding out about it now. My daughter thinks it’s funny when I unearth an “old” song and think that it’s like the greatest thing ever.

Kid: That song is so old! OMG.

Me: Well, it’s new to me, so pfft!

The video is extremely weird but the last minute has my high af ass feeling all goosey. I love the lyrics and the odd melody. It’s become my latest earworm. I swear that there’s a xylophone being played and not to brag, but I was really kickass at that thing when I was 5 year old.

Honestly, the lyrics are fucking amazing. (Yeah, I’m still healing from my divorce and the relationship ended over 3 years ago. Sigh.)

I hope everyone is safe and doing well. Like I said, strange days.

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)  2011

Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it’s an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad it was over

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I’d done
But I don’t wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn’t catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
I used to know, that I used to know, I used to know

Somebody…

  1. I remember when that song was new and it seemed like yesterday (I also swore up and down it had to be Sting singing it). 9 years is a LONG time ago when you’re young, but for us old farts….

    • Time slips away faster now cause we’re old farts, 9 years is like a whole decade!
I thought it was Sting myself, sounds just like him.
